Warm Homes Local Grant (WH:LG)
Make your home more energy efficient with the Warm Homes Local Grant
The Warm Homes Local Grant (WH:LG) is a UK government home energy efficiency upgrade scheme aimed at reducing emissions and energy bills while improving health and comfort within the home.

What is WH:LG?
Action on Energy has secured government funding to deliver home energy efficiency improvements across Cambridgeshire. It is open to owner-occupiers and private renters subject to all eligibility criteria being met. If you are a landlord or tenant, you can get in touch with us to discuss your options.
If you think you might be eligible for funding and wish to apply for consideration, please complete the grant funding request form.
Am I eligible?
You may be eligible for this funding if:
- Your household (or your tenants) have a combined annual income of up to £36,000 or you live in an area pre-identified by government; AND
- Your property has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G or is a park home.
All applications are subject to eligibility checks.
Only homes within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are eligible for Action on Energy administered Warm Homes Local Grant funding.
If your household is low income but exceeds £36,000 annually and you’re struggling to pay your energy bills, you can still get in touch with us and we can ask you some additional questions to see if you qualify.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FUNDING IS DISCRETIONARY
Which energy efficiency measures can be funded?
All home energy efficiency installations would be carried out by one of Action on Energy’s procured contractors, who have been pre-vetted by the partnership of councils. Our list of contractors is available our energy efficiency contractors page.
The funding requires that all installations are delivered to British Standard Institute’s best practice PAS2035. You will be visited by a Assessor who will develop a bespoke plan for your property. Measures could include:
- Insulation (internal wall, cavity wall, loft and/or external wall)
- Draught proofing
- Replacing windows and doors
- Installation of new heating systems, like Air Source Heat Pumps
- Heating and hot water controls
- Ventilation improvements
- Renewable energy generation, like roof top-solar panels
- Battery storage
The scheme aims to support householders to move away from fossil fuel heating systems (gas, LPG, oil etc.,) and is therefore unable to fund works such as:
- Heating systems which are solely fuelled by fossil fuels, such as the installation or repair of a fossil fuel-based heating system.
- The replacement of an existing fossil fuel-based heating system with another fossil fuel-based heating system.
How the scheme works
All measures are subject to the property receiving an assessment from one of our energy efficiency contractors and being technically and financially feasible under the funding available within the scheme.
Our Energy Efficiency Contractors are all accredited to the most up-to-date standards. Therefore, subject to assessment the installation of ventilation is likely to be required. This will also be funded and is non-negotiable. The works cannot be funded without required ventilation being installed.
What is the process?
Either you will contact Action on Energy, and we will refer you to a contractor after triaging your request, or a contractor will contact you directly. From that point, the same process is followed to reach the completion of an installation.
Please refer to the process chart below to learn the steps:
